Our Holsworthy College Care Farming students started their last sessions for this year last week.
Well, the summer holidays are over and the new school term has begun, which means we start our autumn Care Farming project, finishing at the October half term.
The new students settled in well, getting to grips with the calves, chickens and our latest addition, 3 little piggies! The first week always takes longer to get the jobs done, as the students are new, don't know what to do or where anything is. We chat throughout the morning about farm related things, like to difference between hay/silage/straw and also whats a heifer/steer/bull/cow/calf. Its funny how most people will always refer to cattle as "cows".InĀ
In our second session, the jobs were done quicker, which was great. The students remembered well what they needed to do, quantities etc. We also netted up logs and bagged up the sawdust. Its so surprising where the time disappears to in the mornings. Before you look round its break time, then you get going again and its time to finish ! Looking forward to next week when the vet comes out to see us.
