Class 6 build bird boxes

Monday April 27th 2015 saw Bradworthy Academy's Class 6 come out for the morning to build bird boxes.

Jenni commissioned Bob from Chilsworthy to make into kit form 2 different types of Bird boxes and some Small Mammal boxes, as part of Julians Farm Higher level Stewardship Scheme.  In total, 30 boxes were made.  Class 6 were fantastic and have made this morning most of the boxes up.  We also went down to the Culm and fixed 6 of the boxes onto some trees.  The boxes have been made out of untreated wood and to Natural England's specification.

While we down in the Culm Grassland, we went looking for the Caterpillar of the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly and found 4 in less than 2 minutes, together with a lizard, a frog and lots of spiders.

The Orange tip Butterfly was spotted several times and the bird song we enjoyed listening to from many different birds was beautiful.  We counted over 12 different species of trees in the hedges on the way down to the Culm and several wild flowers and grasses could be identified.

A fantastic time was had by all.
